The online operation of UK retailer Tesco, Tesco.com, is broadening its non-grocery product range.

A new area of the site, branded Marketplace (http://www.marketplaceuk.com), will eventually offer products from more than 100 specialist retailers including fashion brands such as Charles Tyrwhitt, Franchetti Bond and Denner Cashmere and home furnishings suppliers such as Cucina and Whittard of Chelsea.

The site is being operated by Altura International, which also operates shopping channels for Sports.com and iVillage.co.uk. Tesco.com receives a percentage of the revenue generated by sales on the site.

The move is part of the group’s drive to become as strong in non-grocery as it is in grocery. The operation recently hit headlines by turning a profit.
