Tesco has been fined after delivering a cake that had been partially eaten by mice to a customer’s house.

The UK’s largest retailer was prosecuted by Cardiff council for selling food unfit for human consumption at its Tesco Extra store in Western Avenue, Cardiff.
It was discovered that Tesco staff had been storing ambient food due for delivery in an outside area, a spokesperson for Cardiff council confirmed to just-food.
The company pleaded guilty to the offence and was fined GBP8,000 (US$12,872). The retailer was additionally ordered to pay legal costs of GBP8,000.
A spokesperson for Tesco told just-food that the problem was an “isolated incident caused by human error”. The company said that measures have been taken to ensure it would not be repeated.
