The London borough of Merton took the supermarket firm to court after environmental health officers discovered several problems at the store, reported the Financial Times.
The council claimed there was a “long history of problems at the store” and that Tesco had not acted on the advice of environmental health officers.
“Our daily procedures and checks are of the highest standards in the industry. In this case, the store in question was undergoing a major refit which led to some isolated problems that have now been dealt with,” Tesco was quoted by the FT as saying.
