The UK’s leading retailer Tesco has announced today (18 Dec) that from January 2007, some three-quarters of its distribution fleet will run on 50% biodiesel blend (B50).

“Using biodiesel in our distribution fleet reflects our commitment to reducing CO2 emissions throughout our business,” said Tesco distribution director Laurie McIIwee. We’re experiencing a huge demand for more environmentally friendly fuels and are committed to driving down carbon dioxide emissions.”
Tesco said its fleet of 2,000 lorries will be the first major fleet in the UK to use the B50 biodiesel blend, while at the pumps Tesco is the UK market leader in biofuels, which are renewable fuels made from agricultural crops and blended with standard diesel or petrol to deliver reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
