Supermarket giant Tesco is expecting formal criticism from the Advertising Standards Authority on Wednesday over its claims to be 16% cheaper than pharmaceuticals company Boots on products such as soaps and shampoos.

Boots complained about the campaign on the grounds that Tesco was not capering products or store locations like for like in its comparison, and according to the Sunday Telegraph, the ASA has agreed with Boots that Tesco is misleading customers.

Boots is also expected to register another complaint this week against Tesco’s claims that its photo processing is “on average up to £1.50 cheaper” than the high street drugs store.

On Wednesday, Tesco will be ordered to immediately withdraw the campaign leaflets from its stores, or make significant changes to them.
