Michelle Lewis told UK newspaper The Mirror: “I bit into the sandwich and felt something strange between my teeth. I ran to the sink to spit it out and realised what it was. It was unravelled but I could not bring myself to check whether it had been used.”

Responding to the report, Tesco said that it would investigate the incident thoroughly, which happened after the customer bought a sandwich in a store in the town of Buckingham.

“We obviously take claims of this nature very seriously,” a spokesperson for Tesco told just-food. “A full investigation into the claim and how the situation could have arisen will be carried out. We will be consulting with the customer and our supplier.”
