The Co-op chief executive Peter Marks said the move for David Sands was a “major acquisition” for the company as it looks to expand its estate. The retailer is looking to increase its 2,800-store network by 300 outlets over the next three years.
“The Sands stores will be a valuable addition to our food portfolio,” Marks said today (10 January). “This deal will significantly strengthen our position in Scotland.
The family-owned Scottish retailer is run by chief executive David Sands, who focused on the “similarities and synergies” between the two retailers. “We share many of the same values including our commitment to supporting local suppliers – and I have every confidence they will continue to invest in, grow and develop our stores and our people in the future.”
