The Co-operative Group is to launch its first specific own-label free-from range to meet “increasing demand” for gluten- and wheat-free foods.

The line, which includes fusilli pasta, muffins and ciabatta rolls, will be sold in the UK retailer’s larger stores from next Monday (18 July).

The development of the range follows The Co-op’s moves earlier this year to reformulate sausages and burgers under its premium own-label brand Truly Irresistible to be free from gluten and wheat.

“The demand for gluten and wheat-free products has risen recently, as more people choose to avoid them in their diet out of personal preference, as well as for health reasons,” said Kate Jones, The Co-op’s head of own-brand products.
