Thortons has dismissed rumours that following the collapse of takeover talks between Newco and Thorntons, Icelandic group Baugur is interested in acquiring the chocolate retailer.

Baugur, who operate tea and coffee retailer Whittard of Chelsea and health store chain Julian Graves, is reported to have considered making a move for Thorntons in the past.

Baugur was unavailable for comment, but Thorntons’ senior independent director and acting chairman John Jackson dismissed such rumours as hearsay. “We have had no approach at all. It is purely speculation at this time,” Jackson told just-food.
