The UK Secretary of State for Health Patricia Hewitt has appointed two new members to the board of the UK’s Food Standards Agency (FSA).

Dr Ian Reynolds and Michael Parker will replace Sati Ariyanavagam and Iain MacDonald on the FSA board.

Reynolds, a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, has held executive and non-executive roles in the public and private sectors.

Commenting on the appointment, Reynolds said: “I am delighted to be joining the FSA Board as I have been involved in food, science and health issues since the start of my career. The Agency plays a vital role in protecting the consumer and I hope that my experience in both the public and private sectors will enable me to make a valuable contribution.”

Parker has a background in business, finance and the National Health Service.
