Unilever has launched a range of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream lines in the UK with a soft centre, weeks after General Mills introduced similar products under its Haagen Dazs brand.
Ben & Jerry’s Core is available in three variants; Karamel Sutra, Dough-ble Whammy and Berry White.
The range will be available in the standard 50cl format, but with a higher RRP of GBP4.99. It will be available in Tesco initially, and other retailers in the coming weeks.
Unilever called the product a “unique innovation” in the UK ice cream market. “With two Fairtrade ice creams and a core of sauce in every tub, Ben & Jerry’s Core is our most indulgent offer ever. No other luxury ice cream offers the ability to tailor your spoon with two different ice creams and a rich core of sauce,” Ben & Jerry’s brand manager Rhodri Morgan said.
In December, General Mills announced plans for a Haagen Dazs product with a liquid centre.
General Mills said the Secret Sensations uses a “new patented technology” that creates a runny sauce surrounded by ice cream, according to the company.
