Unilever Bestfoods UK, a unit of Anglo-Dutch consumer products giant Unilever, has announced that it is to seek offers for its UK ambient desserts business, including the Ambrosia and Brown & Polson brands.
The company said Ambrosia, which is made at Unilever’s Lifton factory in Devon, has a 43% share of the UK custard market, and a 57% share of the milk pudding market. Brown & Polson is a brand of cornflour.
Unilever Bestfoods UK said Ambrosia, which was established in 1917, has total sales of £63m (US$102.3m) at retail sales value.
Gavin Neath, chairman of Unilever Bestfoods UK, said the two brands are to be sold because they do not fit with the company’s Path to Growth strategy of focussing on core brands.
