UK food group Uniq said today (28 April) that it will be the “major beneficiary” of a Marks and Spencer sandwich supplier consolidation process, which will raise its share of M&S’s sandwich supply to 60%.

The company said that the decision underlines its status as a “strategic partner” in food-to-go.

“We are delighted that Marks & Spencer has recognised us as the pre-eminent food-to-go supplier in the UK. We have developed a very strong partnership with M&S over the past 20 years,” Lochlain Feeley, Uniq managing director said today.

Feeley said that the company had been “at the heart” of “major category developments and innovations in M&S food-to-go,” including the Gourmet-to-Go range, Fresh Salad Wraps, Nations Favourties, Simply and Meal Deal launches.

“We have a very well-invested facility, great people and a powerful relationship with M&S which together provides a great platform for future growth of our M&S partnership,” he commented.

The new volumes – including sandwich skillets and flatbread products – are due to transfer to UNiq’s Northampton production site between July 2009 and April 2010.
