United Biscuits UK (UBUK) has extended its Penguin chocolate biscuit bar brand with two new additions.

Penguin Big Stix and Penguin Bakes join the brand that has enjoyed a sales growth of 43% this year, said UBUK today (11 August).

Big Stix are milk chocolate covered biscuit sticks with chocolate chips and ‘added calcium’. There are six twin packs per box with a RRP GBP1.55 (US$2.97).

Penguin Bakes are ‘soft baked’ chocolate flavoured bars with a chocolate flavoured filling, ‘additional calcium’ and a RRP of GBP1.55.

Nick Stuart, commercial manager, at UB said: “Penguin has proven to be a tremendous success story in 2008 and these new innovations will fuel the growth of this brand even further generating more sales and profits for retailers. Adding calcium to the Penguin range gives an additional benefit to these well-loved biscuits.”

The company has also refreshed its wafer and standard Penguin chocolate biscuit bar to include ‘added calcium’, due out later in the year. Eventually UBUK intends to fortify the entire range, the company said.

Asked why the iconic brand continues to be so popular, a spokesperson for UBUK told just-food: “It may be because of the trend towards more retro brands. It also launched a WWF on pack promotion at the beginning of the year, which was a very successful partnership.”
