UK consumers have been warned to avoid certain US products containing peanut butter following a salmonella outbreak in the US and Canada.

The outbreak has sickened 484 people across 43 states in the US. One person in Canada has also been infected with the strain of salmonella typhimurium.
The US Food and Drug Administration has confirmed that the source of the salmonella outbreak is peanut butter and peanut paste made at Peanut Corporation of America’s Blakely site in Georgia.
A spokesperson for the UK Food Standards Agency indicated that the safety watchdog requires UK retailers and manufacturers to withdraw any products included in the US Food and Drug Administration’s recall.
Additionally, UK authorities are testing samples of other US peanut butter on sale in the UK for traces of salmonella.
