Tesco is to bring the US production of its Fresh & Easy ‘Kitchen’ products in-house, the retailer said today (22 June).

The UK retailer has acquired two local suppliers but declined to comment on the identity of the businesses.

However, it is understood to have taken over of the operations of the privately owned Wild Rocket Foods and 2 Sisters Foods – suppliers to its Fresh & Easy business, according to the Financial Times.

Tim Mason, Fresh & Easy CEO, said: “[This] will give us the opportunity to further build on our unique Kitchen concept and give customers more great tasting and great value products.

“The development of the Fresh & Easy Kitchen and the opportunity for utilising the US as a global sourcing hub will also allow us to plan for the long term growth of Fresh & Easy and leverage its important role for the group,” Mason added.

It is understood the suppliers provide fresh produce and meats from two facilities they built adjacent to Fresh & Easy’s distribution centre around 50 miles east of Los Angeles.
