The UK subsidiary of US fastfood giant McDonald’s reported it has been staggered by the success of its new Happy Meal for adults.

The meal includes a salad, drink and a Stepometer, which customers can clip on to their clothing. It then tells them how many steps they take, so they can see how much exercise they are getting as they go about their daily business or exercise routine. This is all part of the company’s strategy of widening its offering to include more options for customers keen to pursue a healthy diet and lifestyle.

The company said it had stockpiled 700,000 Stepometers for the August sales period, but that initial sales had prompted it to order a further 400,000 Stepometers from its Polish supplier.

The Go Active adult happy meal promotion with the Stepometer runs till the end of August.
