UK retailer Waitrose is testing the use of lockers for grocery shopping made through its click-and-collect service.

The lockers are being used at Waitrose’s HQ in Bracknell before a planned roll out to stores next year.

Shoppers on waitrose.com would be able to collect their shopping using a PIN number from the temperature-controlled lockers. The service is free if the order is over GBP50. A shop made before 11:45 can be picked up the next day.

Waitrose is also planning to expand a drive-through service that has been trialled at five stores.

Robin Phillips, Waitrose’s e-commerce director, said: “Giving our customers as many ways as possible to buy and collect their groceries on the move is key to building on the phenomenal growth seen at waitrose.com. Collection lockers will unlock the potential to reach customers in locations where we don’t have a shop and which are very convenient, such as on the way home from work or the school run.”
