At Sial, Wales will also be launching the new welfare-friendly veal – ‘Veal Cymru’ – internationally, after a highly successful launch event in Wales last month.

Veal Cymru has been developed in partnership with French company, Serval, with a view to the export market. Supported by the WDA Food Directorate, the project aims is to help Welsh farmers capture the lucrative continental veal market.

Some companies present – including South Caernarfon Creameries and The Real Crisp Company – have benefited substantially from attending such exhibitions in the past, whilst others are newcomers to the international exhibition scene.

Working closely with producers and retailers, the WDA Food Directorate promotes and markets top quality Welsh food and drink products throughout Wales and internationally.

“Even though this exhibition is in France, food buyers from around 90 countries will be present, and we know our producers will make useful contacts,” said Arwyn Davies, WDA Food Directorate programme development manager.

“Attending exhibitions like Sial is vital if we are serious about putting Welsh food on the map. Our presence not only benefits individual companies, but raises the profile of Wales and its food as a whole.”

He added: “We are delighted to see that Welsh companies are currently looking to increase their export activity, especially at a time when export market conditions are particularly difficult.”
