Wensleydale Foods, a specialist pie company based in Yorkshire, has received a GBP40,000 (US$74,000) loan from Partnership Investment Finance (PIF), which is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund and European Social Fund programmes.
The Wensleydale Foods range of Beth Guy’s pies and Susie Guy’s puddings are sold in Yorkshire, and the company hopes that with the PIF backing the company will be able to roll out nationwide.
“We had done well locally,” says the company’s founder Elizabeth Guy, “but to really progress we needed more finance to improve our kitchens, employ more staff and increase our production.”
Wensleydale Foods has also just signed a deal with major supermarket chain Waitrose, a breakthrough that “will bring real benefits to the local rural community”, says Guy.
