Farmers near Wiseman’s Bridgwater facility in south-west England had written to their local MP to claim that foreign tankers are regularly seen at the dairy.
The UK milk processor yesterday (6 January) issued a statement to insist “every single litre of milk” it uses was sourced from domestic farmers.
“Far from importing milk, what farmers are seeing at Bridgwater and our other dairies across the country, is a major operation to export cream to markets throughout Europe,” said Wiseman milk procurement director Pete Nicholson.
“That’s because strong consumer preference for lower fat milks results in us having some 90 million litres of cream to find markets for each year.
