Alan Wiseman, chairman of UK dairy group Robert Wiseman Dairies, reported that sales volumes for the first three months of the financial year were running 2.5% up on last year, at the company’s 2006 Annual General Meeting.

“We are pleased to report that sales volumes in the first three months of the new financial year are satisfactory and are 2.5% ahead of last year’s first quarter,” Wiseman told shareholders. “As expected, the new business with the One Stop chain of convenience stores started in June and initial volumes are in line with forecast.”

Wiseman added that, as the company had reported in May at the time of its preliminary announcement, stability in terms of supplies to major multiples has helped to rebuild confidence in making long-term investment decisions to keep the company “at the forefront of our industry”.

Pure, the new extended shelf life (ESL) milk Wiseman produces for Tesco had enjoyed continued steady growth with retail sales levels currently running at over GBP10m (US$18m) per annum, Wiseman said. A new 1-litre pack was added to the range in June 2006, while the company soon plans to launch its own ESL milk under the Puriti brand.
