The England football team will be taking a range of home-produced food products with them to Japan when they launch their World Cup campaign – including Jaffa Cake biscuits and favourite cereals such as Shredded Wheat and Weetabix.

Roger Narbett, the chef for the England football team today [Wednesday] revealed that the orange-filled biscuits are one component in the meticulously planned diet drawn up by dieticians working with the team as they prepare their campaign.

As they cannot be bought from shops in Japan, the team will be bringing a store of them along in their luggage. Narbett commented: “I went over with a list of what I need to make sure everything would be available out there. But after looking in the supermarkets and talking to suppliers, I discovered there were a few things I couldn’t find. I’ll mainly use fresh local produce – the fish and vegetables there are great – but we’ll be bringing our own Jaffa Cakes, baked beans and cereals like Shredded Wheat, Weetabix and Mini-Weetabix.”

The players are forbidden to eat or drink anything that has not been prepared by Narbett and his team.

According to thisislondon, the players’ diets are strictly controlled according to a nutritional formula of no more than 60% carbohydrates, 25% fat and 15% protein to keep them in peak physical condition. Important factors are to provide familiar food when players are away from home for long periods.
