Metro Group plans to open its first Real hypermarket in the Ukrainian market in August, a spokesperson for the German retailer told just-food.
The hypermarket will be 12,500 sq m in size, with selling space of 8,500 sq m. It will carry 40,000 food and non-food SKUs, the spokesperson revealed.
The store is scheduled to open on 20 August in Odessa. Construction is currently underway.
“Despite the difficult economic climate and declining purchasing power, we believe that Ukrainians are underserved with quality retail destination for their everyday needs. The current difficulties on the market provide us with an opportunity to establish a solid presence and build substantial market share. Our plans remain unchanged,” said Ulf Groth, MD, Real Ukraine.
The store will create 420 new jobs.
