Belgian food group Ter Beke said it will centralise its operations in the Netherlands by the end of the year in a bid to be “more efficient” in the country.

The firm this morning (7 May) recorded a 3% increase in turnover for the first quarter of 2010 and outlined its plans for centralisation.

The company started building a warehouse in Nijmegen in the Netherlands in February, which is expected to be completed by the end of the year. All of the firm’s operations will be centralised there, including its slicing and packaging activities that are currently operated in Milsbeek.

René Stevens CFO for Ter Beke told just-food: “At the moment we have different lines… two divisions… and in order to be more efficient, we are planning to centralise all the activities in one area and that process is now moving forward.”

Stevens, however, insisted the move will not involve job cuts.

“The Dutch operations will be handled from one major centre rather than from different ones. But this will not involve job cuts, it’s much more about being more efficient, being able to optimise truck loads, being able to serve our customers better.”
