All of Wal-Mart Stores’ outlets in the Chinese city of Chongqing have now been temporarily closed as the investigation into the “green pork” pricing continues.
Yesterday (10 October) 12 of the US retail giant’s stores were closed for 15 days as part of a police investigation into the sale of ordinary pork as organic, or “green pork”, which commands a higher price, generating CNY730,000 (US$114,500) of illegal income, according to city authorities.

Now the only remaining open store in Chongqing has also been temporarily shut down. Some staff have been arrested by the Public Security Bureau over the allegations and the company has also been fined CNY2.69m.
A statement on the Wal-Mart China website said: “We have fully cooperated with the investigation and focused upon the fastest implementation of corrections suggested by the (city authorities).
“Wal-Mart China is cooperating fully with the PSB and doing everything possible to conclude the investigation.”
