Workers from the 2 Sisters plant in Smethwick, Birmingham have been protesting since Wednesday (2 September) over the alleged racial abuse of a colleague at the facility.

Some 60 employees were suspended after taking unofficial action to back the plant’s shop steward, who had been earlier suspended for supporting the victim of the alleged abuse.

The protesters – all Asian – had planned to take their demonstrations to local retail outlets in Handsworth and Aston, two Birmingham communities with a significant Asian population.

However, a 2 Sisters spokesman told just-food that, after talks between the company and union representatives, the protests had been called off.
