Marks and Spencer said today (12 May) that the launch of a new website that has been specifically designed to cater to mobile phone users is part of its broader strategy to drive the growth of its online business.

The new mobile site offers consumers access to the 24,000 products currently available on the group’s regular website, but also aims to be easily navigated on a mobile device.

“The mobile site aims to maximise our capabilities as an all-in-one multi-format retailer,” a spokesperson for the company told just-food.

“Our online and M&S Direct businesses are important to us as an area of growth and we are looking at ways to drive that,” the spokesperson added.

M&S launched its core website in 2000 and now has over four million users. The retailer said mobile is the biggest growth area for internet retailing.
