UK biscuit maker Tunnock’s has said it is “pleased” to have secured the backing from union officials for its fresh pay offer to staff.

Talks at UK employment-dispute body ACAS have brought nearer an end to Tunnock’s dispute with staff, who have twice walked out over pay in the last three weeks.

Managing director Boyd Tunnock said: “After having met with ACAS today (8 October), we are pleased to have reached an agreement with Unite who are strongly recommending the offer.”

Staff will meet on Monday to consider the offer. No details of the offer were disclosed.

It is Tunnock’s third offer to staff; the previous two were unable to stop workers at its site in Uddington, Lanarkshire staging two 24-hour strikes.
