FrieslandCampina said today (18 May) it was “hopeful” of continued growth in Vietnam, where double-digit sales growth has led the dairy group to expand capacity.

The Dutch dairy giant, which earlier today announced plans to extend its facility in Binh Duong, in south-eastern Vietnam, said sales in the early months of 2010 had followed strong growth over the last three years.

FrieslandCampina, which sells dairy brands including Dutch Lady, YoMost and Friso in Vietnam, said its sales had risen by 10% on average over the last three years.

When asked whether that level of growth could continue, a spokesperson said: “We do hope so. In the first months of 2010, we have seen very fast growth in demand. The trend is continuing.”

The spokesperson said rising incomes among Vietnam consumers, as well as greater interest in health, had boosted demand for FrieslandCampina’s brands.

FrieslandCampina said a second Vietnamese facility in Ha Nam had also “reached its full potential”.

However, the spokesperson said “initially” the dairy group’s expansion plans would focus on Binh Duong, although she said the company could look to expand at Ha Nam in the future.
