Discount retailer Aldi is investing more than US$100m to open 30 outlets in and around the US city of Houston over the next three years.

Aldi operates 37 stores in Texas, mostly in the Dallas Fort Worth area.

“Our history and recent growth in Texas has us poised for great success in the Houston area as more and more shoppers are discovering the high-value, high-quality shopping experience that Aldi offers,” Scott Huska, division vice president, said yesterday (14 May).

The first Houston store will open in the spring of 2013, with more than ten new locations in the pipeline. The move will create around 400 jobs.

Aldi opened 75 stores in the US in 2011 and plans to open “more than” 80 stores in 2012.
