US supermarket operator The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company has appointed Tom O’Boyle to the new position of executive vice president.

He will be responsible for leading the merchandising, marketing, supply and logistics departments to create a cohesive strategy between these departments.

He will report into president and CEO Sam Martin.

Martin said: “Tom is an expert merchant with a proven track record of aligning merchandising offers with exciting marketing programmes to meet customers’ needs. His appointment completes my dynamic executive management team which will lead our company’s turnaround initiative.

O’Boyle has over 25 years of retail experience in merchandising and marketing, with positions in Jewel Foods stores and Albertsons. He also worked as president and senior vice president, food and drug for Sears.
