Martek Biosciences Corporation, which develops and produces DHA omega-3 products, has signed a licence and supply agreement with European dairy company Arla Foods for the use of its DHA and ARA oils in infant formula products in certain markets.

DHA and ARA are fatty acids which are naturally present in breast milk and are important to infant development and growth, particularly in mental and visual development.

“This agreement with Arla Foods is yet another example of how large global companies are recognising the benefits of adding Martek oils to formula, both for their business and the infants they serve,” said Martek CEO Steve Dubin. “It’s satisfying to know that with every new licence agreement, more and more infants around the world will benefit from Martek’s products.”

Martek’s blend of DHA and ARA is the only source of these nutrients currently used in US infant formula, and is present in more than 85% of infant formula sold in the US.
