In a statement released this week, Austrade said it had partnered with some of Australia’s leading gourmet food producers to promote the country’s gourmet foods from June till August at Whole Foods Market stores nationwide with a series of demonstrations.

The demos feature new products such as the G’Day Gourmet line of flavoured tunas and wild-caught salmon, King Island Dairy cheeses and fruit pastes from 34 degrees as well as Australian olive oils, cheeses, crispbreads and sundried tomatoes, among other products.

Austrade’s food specialist, Peter Brennan, said: “We are very excited to be part of the programme to introduce Australia’s favourite specialty food items to Whole Foods Market customers. Australia is one of the most pristine, clean environments in which to produce food. We have more organically farmed land than any country in the world, so our foods are naturally more flavourful, with no additives or chemicals.”

The Austrade push comes at a time when, with the Australia-United States Free Trade Agreement in effect, quota increases and numerous tariff reductions on seafood, cheeses, nuts, olives and other gourmet food items have made Australian gourmet food more available and affordable to a broader American audience.
