Mexican baker Grupo Bimbo is to close two manufacturing plants in the US.
Production at facilities in Alabama and Tennessee will end in May, the company’s local unit, Bimbo Bakeries USA, has announced.

The bakeries – in Dothan in Alabama and a plant in Knoxville in Tennessee – produce bread and buns and employ a combined 190 staff.
Bimbo said the “ageing” facilities could no longer “compete in the marketplace”. It said production would move to other sites in its manufacturing network.
The company became the largest baker in the US after its acquisition of Sara Lee’s fresh bakery operations. The deal, announced in November 2010, was completed 12 months later after it secured approval from anti-trust authorities in the UK.
In January, Bimbo announced plans to close a former Sara Lee bakery in Rock Island in Illinois.
