Campbell Soup Co. has appointed the head of the emerging markets business of personal care group Beiersdorf to lead its operations in Asia Pacific.
Ümit Subasi willl join Campbell as president, Asia Pacific, next month. He replaces Gareth Edgecombe, who joined Campbell in June 2011.

The US group said Edgecome leaves “a few months short of his three-year term” after “successfully spearheading a growth plan for Campbell’s Asia Pacific business and setting the team on their course”.
Subasi will be responsible for Campbell’s operations in Australia, New Zealand, south-east Asia and Japan. Among his tasks will be to grow Campbell’s biscuits business in Australia and expand the company’s presence in south-east Asia.
“In Australia, we are focused on driving innovation, productivity and cost reduction, and growing our iconic Arnott’s biscuit business, our company’s third-largest brand behind Campbell’s and Pepperidge Farm,” a spokesperson told just-food.
“The company is also seeking to expand its presence in international markets by extending the product platforms of many of its current businesses and by pursuing business development opportunities in faster-growing developing markets. For example, we’re focusing our resources on driving growth in our biscuits business in Indonesia and in our simple meals business in Malaysia.”

The spokesperson noted Campbell’s acquisition of Denmark-based snacks firm Kelsen Group “provides an opportunity for growth” in China’s baked snacks market.
Until this summer, Daniel Saw held the position of president, Asia, at Campbell, in which he oversaw its businesses in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
However, Saw took the position of CEO of China Huiyuan Juice Group in July. Campbell has, as yet, not made public its plans to fill the role of president, Asia.
