US food giant Campbell Soup Co has announced it is to cut around 70 jobs at its office in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

A spokesperson for Campbell told just-food today (26 June) that the company has entered into an agreement with global management consultancy firm Accenture to provide finance services including billing, credit and collections, that were handled internally by the office.

The office currently employs around 110 staff, but around 70 of those jobs are expected to now be eliminated over the next eight to ten months.

“The reason we contracted with Accenture is to improve delivery of these services and at a lower cost. Accenture’s experience, scale and capabilities will improve the efficiency of our billing, credit and collections operations and deliver these services more effectively,” the spokesperson said.

In February, Campbell president and CEO Denise Morrison said the company “can and will do better” after its revenue and earnings slid during the first half of its fiscal year, causing the US soup giant to cut its annual forecasts for sales and profits.
