Campbell Soup Co. plans to expand one of its Pepperidge Farm production plants, creating 54 jobs.

The company said it is expanding production at its facility in Richmond in Utah to meet increasing demand for its Goldfish crackers. The expansion is expected to begin next year, with production to start in 2014.

The US$45m investment is expected to create 54 jobs. The company added that it had considered expanding its Goldfish facilities in Pennsylvania, Florida and Ohio but said it chose the Richmond plant because of its location and workforce. 

“This expansion represents a major vote of confidence in Utah by one of the world’s largest food products manufacturers, the Campbell Soup Co.,” said Utah Governor Gary Herbert.
