A WTO disputes panel has been created to decide whether Chinese anti-dumping and countervailing duties on US broiler chicken exports are legal.
Beijing claims that US poultry product producers are unfairly subsidised and dump cut-priced products on the Chinese market. As a result, the Chinese government has imposed these duties to protect its own poultry meat sector.

However, the US considers these tariffs unjustified and breach global trade rules. In September, it launches proceedings at the WTO.
A WTO statement noted Washington considered the duties “inconsistent with China’s obligations under the [WTO] anti-dumping agreement” and would challenge “every phase of China’s investigation”, which had justified the tariffs.
