Chiquita Brands International is recalling nearly 3,000 cases of Fresh Express bagged spinach in the US due to a possible salmonella risk.

The manufacturer said yesterday (5 March) that it is recalling the bags out of an “abundance of caution” due to a positive result for Salmonella from random sample testing.

It said that it is not aware of any illnesses reported in connection with the recall and that no other Fresh Express products are included in the recall.

The product was distributed in New York, Maryland, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Ohio and Maine, with possible redistribution in  New Jersey, Virginia, Delaware, Vermont, New Hampshire, West Virginia and DC.

The affected products have product codes starting with H081 and H082 a UPC Code of 7127913204 and use by dates of 6 and 7 April.
