US yoghurt firm Chobani has had a class action lawsuit filed against it for allegedly “trying to hide” the amount of sugar in its yoghurt product.

According to the New York Post, the lawsuit filed by a member of the public in Brooklyn alleges Chobani “purposefully misrepresented” to consumers that their products contain “evaporated cane juice” which is “not juice at all”.

“It is nothing more than sugar dressed up to sound like a healthier sweetener,” adds the suit.

It goes on to make comparisons between the amount of sugar in a Chobani cup and a Nestle fudge ice cream bar.

“Defendants intend to create consumer confusion by causing purchaser to impute any meaning to the 0% that consumers wish, such as that the Products lack sugar, carbohydrates, calories, or any other content which a consumer may believe is unhealthy,” the suit states.

A spokesperson for Chobani was unavailable for comment at the time of request.
