ConAgra Foods has extended its recall of peanut butter produced at its production facility in Sylvester, Georgia, by more than a year – back to October 2004 – due to fears that the products are contaminated with salmonella, the US Food and Drug Administration has revealed.

The recall covers all Peter Pan branded peanut butter and Great Value peanut butter beginning with the product code 2111.

According to estimates from the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, 425 people have fallen ill in an outbreak of salmonella that has been linked to the ConAgra peanut butter production facility in Georgia.
