Danone’s Oikos Greek yoghurt was the top-selling new product in the US in 2012, according to IRI’s annual poll of the best-performing lines.

The French food giant saw sales of its Dannon Oikos line reach US$283.8m last year as demand for Greek yoghurt in the US continued to grow, IRI’s New Product Pacesetters survey said.

IRI measures the best-selling launches each year. The poll looks at sales of products in their first year at grocery, drug, mass market retailers, dollar and club stores, plus, for the first time, Wal-Mart outlets.

Starbucks’ K-Cups coffee pods was at number two in the list, with sales of $198.9m. Third was Anheuser-Busch InBev’s Bud Light Platinum, which generated sales of $162.2m.

Dean Foods’ TruMoo chocolate milk was at four, after sales of $158.3m. At five came Unilever’s Breyers Blasts ice cream, which enjoyed sales of $147.3m.

IRI, which this week announced a relaunch of its own and a change of name from SymphonyIRI, this year provided a countdown of the top ten launches by sales in convenience stores.
