Dean Foods has revealed plans to close its Fairmont Products dairy plant in Belleville, Pennsylvania.

A spokesperson for the US dairy giant told just-food yesterday (23 April) that the company will phase out production over the next six months and close the plant at the end of October. Eighty-two people will lose their jobs.

The plant manufactures cottage cheese and ice cream. Dean Foods said that production would be transferred to other facilities.

“The decision to close the plant and shift production to our other facilities in the region was made solely on the basis of available plant production capacity and the similarity of products sold,” a company spokesperson commented.
