Dean Foods plans to shutter its Robinson Dairy milk plant in Denver, Colorado, and transfer production to a larger facility nearby.

A spokesperson for the US dairy group told just-food that production will be phased out in the coming months. Production will be moved to the Meadow Gold Dairy facility in Englewood.

“While this announcement will result in the elimination of 40 positions, we are pleased to share that we are able to retain 96 jobs by moving them to the Meadow Gold Dairy plants in Englewood and in Greeley,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson emphasised that the company “regrets” the impact that the move will have on employees and the community. However, the company emphasised the need to consolidate its manufacturing footprint and increase efficiency.

“The decision to eliminate jobs in any part of our business is never an easy one. We need to improve our supply chain capability, and operating fewer plants will help us streamline our operations. The decision to discontinue production at this location does not reflect the quality of work performed by our employees, but the competitive nature of the marketplace.”
