Dole Food Company has posted a 30% drop in EBITDA as its international fresh fruit business was hit by weak market conditions in European and Asian markets.

The company said that for the first quarter ended 27 March EBITDA fell to US$85m, down from $122m for the comparable period of last yar.

Net revenue was stable at $1.61bn despite unfavourable conditions in Europe and Asia.

“We are very pleased with the performance of our fresh vegetables and packaged food segments which met or exceeded our plan for the quarter,” said Dole president and CEO David DeLorenzo.

“Our fresh fruit operations, however, were negatively impacted by poor market conditions in Europe and Asia during the quarter related to severe weather conditions in both markets, as well as the continuing weak economic conditions in the European Union.”
