The company, which is part of Dole Food Company, said it was recalling all packs of Dole Hearts Delight salad sold in the US and Canada with a “best if used by” date of 19 September, 2007, and a production code of A24924A or A24924B stamped on the package.
Dole said that while no actual illnesses had been reported, a random screening in Canada showed a sample in a grocery store to contain E. coli O157:H7. It added that no other Dole salad products were involved in the recall.
“Our overriding concern is for consumer safety,” said Eric Schwartz, president of Dole Fresh Vegetables. “We are working closely with the US Food and Drug Administration, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, and several US state health departments.”
