US ice-cream maker Dreyer’s, a division of Nestle, is shifting production from its facility in Houston to four of its other plants, a move that will lead to the loss of 168 jobs.

The closure will take place at the beginning of April and will involve production being moved to plants in Bakersfield and Tulare, California; Laurel, Maryland; and Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Around 115 sales, distribution and corporate support employees will remain in Houston after the plant closes.
Dreyer’s Houston plant produces ice cream in family-size cartons for home sale as well as larger foodservice containers for restaurants and parlours.
Brands of frozen dessert products manufactured or distributed by Dreyer’s in the US include Grand, Slow Churned, Dibs, Haagen-Dazs, Nestle Crunch and The Skinny Cow.
