In some cases, Earth’s Best said, the lid of the jars has popped and the product is discoloured.
Potentially, the company said consumption could cause clostridium botulinum or botulism, a potentially fatal form of food poisoning. No illnesses have been reported.
The affected jars are sold in 4.5 ounce jars with a UPC number of 23923-20223 and an expiration date of 13 September 2008.
Production has been suspended as Earth’s Best works with the US Food and Drug Administration and Earth’s Best’s manufacturer Bay Valley Foods to determine the source of the problem.
