The 400,000 sq ft facility is due to be completed in 2010 and will take on production from Riviana’s site in Houston, which is due to close.

“This state-of-the-art facility will allow us to reduce our cost for processing, packaging, storage and distribution and will provide important economies of scale,” said Riviana president and CEO Bastiaan de Zeeuw.

The work will take place close to Riviana’s current site in Memphis, where the company has been present since 1965.

Riviana decided to close its Houston plant as part of a review of its operations and plans to boost efficiency.
